Keystone’s Unwavering Commitment to Your Safety at the Indiana State Fair

Aug 12, 2024

At Keystone Cooperative, we are committed to living and operating within a culture of safety. This promise is incredibly important to us, as our daily goal is for every employee to return home each evening in the same say they showed up to work that morning. Our dedication to safety is even quietly, yet predominantly displayed at the Indiana State Fair.

With over 840,000 attendees in 2023, the Indiana State Fair is one of the largest state fairs in the country. This attendance number comes along with food, tractor shuttles, and livestock exhibits; all of which are fueled or powered by Keystone Cooperative. It is easy, and frankly, fun, to talk about Keystone’s support of the Indiana State Fair. You can find our murals inside and outside the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion, we provide the backtags for each and every livestock exhibitor, we fuel the tractor shuttles with CountryMark Premium Dieselex fuel … and the best part of all? We provide all the propane required to heat and fry your favorite fair food. More than 90 Keystone propane tanks rest outside food vendor trailers to ensure when you have a hankering for an elephant ear, you get what you want.

But do you know the extent of safety work that goes into keeping the hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers safe during three hot weeks in August?

To prevent the possibility of a safety incident from occurring, Keystone Cooperative has put together a passionate, dedicated safety team that works diligently to facilitate company-wide trainings and inspections, as well as safeguarding our employees and communities from any inherent risks. With 90+ LP tanks and countless gallons of propane and fuels to manage at the Indiana State Fair alone, our safety team routinely performs leak tests on all vendor trailers and fuel tanks to ensure that gas is not escaping from the tank or fuel lines. The safety team performs visual inspections of every propane tank to make sure they are qualified for use before they are even brought to the fairgrounds. Along with that, the safety team manually places each one to verify the correct alignment of the tank. All of these safety measures are vital, and as the Assistant Vice President of Propane at Keystone Cooperative, Mike Hayden, says “Keystone Cooperative and the Indiana State Fair have a great partnership that is focused on safety. We are all committed to doing things the right way to ensure the safety of the nearly 1,000,000 visitors during the duration of the Indiana State Fair.”

All fairgoers can attend the great event knowing that Keystone’s culture of safety is working behind the scenes to ensure the only thing on your mind is grabbing a pork chop just in time to catch the tractor shuttle.
